How to make sure that your Dog is Happy and Healthy

How to make sure that your Dog is Happy and Healthy

If you are a good dog owner, the health of your dog is important. You have a love for your dog that runs deep and only want him to be happy and healthy. You can do so by following the guidelines below:
The general health of your canine friend is based on good veterinary care. Make regular visits to a good veterinarian. The idea is to do a routine check up twice per annum but older dogs and puppies need more frequent checkups. Also, if your dog is ill you should stick to the recommendations given by the vet. Because dogs age much faster than humans, changes can occur during the year and you should therefore allow him to be monitored by a vet. Make sure that you choose a vet you can trust and one that you can comfortably communicate with.

Another fundamental aspect of a healthy dog’s lifestyle is good nutrition. The coat, skin, gastrointestinal functions, energy level and weight of your dog is directly affected by what he eats. You should therefore select a good quality commercial dog food or make quality homemade food for your dog. After you have decided on the best diet for your dog, you should consistently feed him with it. Observe the reaction of your dog to the food. Look if there is any difference in the coat, energy level, and weight. If your dog has a poor reaction to the food, you should try another diet. Changing your dog’s food will upset his gastro intestines, so you should make the switch gradually or consult with your vet.

Your canine companion needs exercise to stay healthy. If your dog has a healthy diet, then he should also be very energetic. However, if you fail to allow your dog to get some good exercise, that pent up energy will be released on the doorway, carpet, furniture or even books. Do not fault the dog for his destructive behavior; instead think about whether he’s getting adequate exercise. Dogs generally require at least an hour or two of exercise on a daily basis, but this depends on age, breed and size. You should come up with a good exercise routine for your dog and watch his health improve over time.

The buildup of tartar and plaque can cause your dog’s health to have serious issues. If you’re not already focused on the dental care of your dog, start doing so now. You can do so by brushing his teeth, giving him dental treats, or using oral rinses. You should also get advice from your vet about his teeth or even get professional dental care now and then.
